A group of Year 6 pupils at Larks Hill Junior & Infant School, part of Pontefract Academies Trust, who are avid book worms, have worked together with their teacher to create a unique book offering for their local community in Pontefract. The ten children, who formed a book club back in September have been meeting once every two weeks to share their passion and knowledge of reading. Pontefract Food Bank Thank Pontefract Schools for their Support

Together the 3,900 pupils and over 300 staff members of Pontefract Academies Trust collected 315kg of food which has been donated to Pontefract Food Bank. The amount collected is enough to create 21 food packages for those in need within the local community. Pontefract Food Bank which is based at Central Methodist Church, Newgate, Pontefract are delighted to have the support of Pontefract Academies Trust as they’re urgently needing items such as tinned tuna, tinned meats, tinned potatoes, carrots and large size nappies to name just some of the products on their list. Pontefract Children Win National Writing Competition

Twelve children are following in the footsteps of their favourite authors such as Jacqueline Wilson and David Walliams after being selected out of 10,000 children to have their creative writing published in a book. The children are all from Larks Hill Junior & Infant School in Pontefract, part of Pontefract Academies Trust and were tasked to write a poem or short story no more than 100 words along the theme of “A wander in the Woods”. Wearing red, telling funny jokes and dressing up as their favourite superheroes are just some of the ways that the children at Pontefract Academies Trust schools plan to celebrate Red Nose Day this Friday 19th March. Carleton Park Junior school council had a committee meeting to decide what they would like to do and it was agreed that the whole school will enjoy a “Funny Friday Afternoon” and share as many jokes as they can throughout the day. Masked Readers celebrate World Book Day at Pontefract Academies Trust

Teachers, pupils and parents didn’t let lockdown stop them from celebrating this year’s World Book Day as they enjoyed an action packed agenda to enjoy their love of storytelling and reading. Pontefract Academies Trust has been embracing Children’s Mental Health Week and encouraging all their students to find activities that help them feel good about themselves whether that be art, drama, exercise or music. Primary school children in Pontefract have been hard at work to create bright and uplifting paintings to be displayed in Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield with the aim of bringing a smile to patients during the festive season. Children from six schools in Pontefract have recorded themselves singing a Christmas song and message to be played as part of The Prince of Wales Hospice in Pontefract, Light up a Life event on Thursday 10th December at 7pm. Creative Pontefract Children produce 200 Poppies for Remembrance Day

Primary school children from Pontefract Academies Trust have made around 200 poppies to be displayed opposite Valley Gardens in Pontefract Town Centre for all to come and see and mark Remembrance Day on the 11th November. Thousands of Pontefract Kids Took Part in the Cross Country Challenge

Around 3500 children in Pontefract put their best feet forward to take part in the Trust’s first Cross Country Challenge competition. Each child raced against their individual class mates along a designated track to adhere to social distancing rules. Key Stage 1 children ran 800 metres and Key Stage 2 children ran 1200 metres. At the end of the race the children were given an individual time to share with their parents.
